        Elder Abuse Prevention

Learn how to recognize the warning signs of domestic violence and financial exploitation among older adults, understand available resources, and discover ways to help protect some of our community’s most vulnerable residents.

Domestic violence and abuse can affect individuals at any age, yet abuse involving older adults often goes unnoticed or unreported. This educational presentation explores the unique challenges older adults face when experiencing physical, emotional, psychological, sexual, and financial abuse, as well as the barriers that can prevent victims from seeking help.
Participants will gain a deeper understanding of warning signs, risk factors, reporting options, and community resources available to support older adults experiencing abuse.

Participants will learn:

• The various forms of abuse that affect older adults
• Physical, emotional, behavioral, and environmental warning signs
• How financial exploitation occurs and common tactics used by abusers
• Challenges that can make abuse difficult to recognize and report
• The impact abuse can have on an older adult's physical, emotional, and financial well-being
• How to document concerns, report suspected abuse, and connect individuals with resources
• Local support services available to older adults and their families

This presentation is ideal for older adults, caregivers, family members, social service professionals, healthcare workers, and community members interested in learning how to recognize abuse and help protect vulnerable adults.
